The Bird Sisters
were a magical concoction of three singing/songwriting women
(Susan Smith, Jude Vadala, and Tannis Slimmon) who took
delight in delivering original music through their own unique
approach to harmony. Once a purely a cappella outfit, they
eventually rounded out their sound with acoustic guitars
and bass.
Singing together for ten
years, the Birds took their music across Canada, to the
northeastern United States and as far south as Texas, playing
such venues as the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Harbourfront
in Toronto, and Saratoga Springs legendary Caffe Lena. Their
biggest gig ever had to be singing the National anthem at
the Skydome in Toronto for a Blues Jays vs. Yankees game!
The Bird Sisters released
three albums: "Flo", 1990,
produced by Jeff Bird (Tamarack, Cowboy Junkies), "Different
Stories", 1992, coproduced by Ken Whiteley and the
Bird Sisters, and "She and She and
She", (1995), coproduced by John Switzer and the
Bird Sisters. They also have cuts on "SXSW Live, Volume
1" and "Live at the Winnipeg Folk Festival".
